Come watch the Huskers, fresh off their win over the Oregon Ducks, tackle the Northwestern Wildcats in our first Big Ten conference game at 4:30 p.m. AZ time. The Wildcats won ltheir last game vs. Duke 24 to 13.
We went to Desert Rose on the 10th and found it to be a spacious, attractive and accommodating place to watch the game. Desert Rose Pizza and GastroPub is in historic downtown Glendale, and opened in January as the reincarnation of the former Glendale Iron Works . (According to Wikipedia, the term “gastropub” was coined in 1991, when David Eyre and Mike Belben took over The Eagle pub in Clerkenwell, London. Traditionally, British pubs were drinking establishments and little emphasis was placed on the serving of food. There are at least 3 distinct venues at this address: 1)Desert Rose Steakhouse with live music on Saturday nights; 2)Desert Rose Pizza and Gastropub, and 3)Desert Rose cigar Lounge. Below are some pictures from the 10th.

This week’s Game Day will be shared by two of our long-time watch-sites:
Moon Valley Grill
at 15414 N 7th St #2, Phoenix, AZ 85022
Max Sports Grill at 7134 E Thomas Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
Let’s show one of our new official watch-sites, Bleachers Sports Grill, a warm Husker welcome. (We try to get an extra large turnout to each of our watch-sites on their chosen “game days”.) Kickoff is 5 pm AZ time.
15410 S Mountain Pkwy, Phoenix, AZ
We’d also like to have a good turnout for our other new watch-site, Desert Rose Pizza and Gastropub, in Glendale. Don’t let the name fool you…they’re also a first-class sports bar.
The fine folks at Lucky Break Bar have purchased this cool customized Husker bike. Husker fans can get a raffle ticket for each time they come to watch the Husker games for an entry into a drawing at the end of the 2016 season. Imagine cruising around with this eye-catching ride!
Our Board has voted to once again sell Big Ten scratch-off tickets to make additional revenue for our scholarship fund and subsidize some club events. The vendor chosen, Add/Sum Cards, is one we used before, and has also been recommended by some other non-profit groups . Add/Sum Cards is online software that produces random combinations, without repetition. This data is exported to tickets and covered with a grade AA scratch-off coating. The principal idea is based upon selecting a professional sport of interest (Big Ten Football) and using the future results as a way to determine the raffle winner(s).
How the Scratch Tickets will work: Each ticket sells for $20.00 and plays for nine (9) weeks
beginning September 24th. Payout each week is based on total points scored by the teams identified on the card for that week. Each week the scratch offs pay out
$100.00 for three-team total highest score,
$50.00 for three-team 2nd highest score,
$25.00 for three-team 3rd highest score and
$25.00 for three-team lowest score.
